OSRSG 15-year mandate film: Fighting the Silence

Fighting the Silence: 15 Years of the OSRSG-SVC Mandate

In 2024, the United Nations marked the 15-year anniversary of the establishment of the mandate of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict, established through the unanimous adoption of Security Council resolution 1888 (2009). The resolution called for coherent and strategic leadership on addressing sexual violence in conflict, including through UN Action Against Sexual Violence in Conflict, the Team of Experts on the Rule of Law and Sexual Violence in Conflict (TOE), and dedicated Women’s Protection Advisors (WPAs). Together, these entities form an integrated prevention and response architecture. This documentary film illustrates the evolution of the mandate on conflict-related sexual violence over the past 15 years.
